In May 2002 this beautiful area on Escambia Bay was set aside as a nature preserve. I was thrilled to learn that it will never be developed, many summers of my childhood were spent here on a houseboat. My father and I enjoyed seeing the area and remembering the great times our family spent here. This picture was taken in August 2003, I don't know how the area fared during the storm surge of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. I hope "Ivan the Terrible" left some beach!
***Update --- I visited this area in late December 2004, the sign is now gone, washed up somewhere in the woods. The trees held their ground, the beach still had lots of debris that had washed up and is now partially buried in sand.
