I photographed this Dragonfly nymph (also known as a naiad) at Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville. The nymphs are voracious predators capable of eating minnows, tadpoles and of course, other aquatic insects. They have a hinged jaw that shoots forward rapidly to capture the prey.
Note the Mayfly nymph above (11:00) and the aquatic fly larva on the right (2:00) of the photo.
