Saddleback caterpillar - a.k.a. "Packsaddle"
Sibine stimulea
#4700

Sometimes I don't have to go far to look for critters! This caterpillar (and 6 more of its' siblings) was munching on the leaves of my Ti plant on my porch, just outside my front door! This type of caterpillar has wicked spines that can inflict painful stings when touched. It will pupate into an "LBM" -- "Little Brown Moth." The brown and white patch in the middle of the caterpillar's abdomen may resemble an eye to frighten a predator.
