Carolina Mallow; Bristly Mallow
Modiola caroliniana* /Mallow Family

This pretty little flower can only be enjoyed when the sun is out. It is in the same family as okra, hollyhocks, and cotton. Unlike many other members of the Mallow Family, these flowers are small, less than half-inch. I found this one blooming in early June in my yard near my big magnolia tree. Note the bright red nectar guides on the petals.
Annual or Biennial
Where seen: Oak Ridge
