Common Milkweed - close-up
Asclepias syriaca /Milkweed Family

These flowers have small slits which guide insects' legs to catch the V-shaped pollen-containg bodies called pollenia.
If the pollenia are inserted into another flower, pollination may occur. The small number of pods per plant compared to the large number of flowers is an indication that pollination of these flowers is difficult.
