All of the old buildings (and many of the new ones) are made of local limestone. This block in the Cathedral of San Fernando had lots of seashell fossils in it. I guess I'm probably one of the few tourists that would take photos of the fossils in a building! :)
The rock in the Hill Country nearby is limestone, so the stone masons didn't have to go far for their building supplies.
