When I first saw these pretty purple flowers, I thought, "What a lovely tree! I wonder what this is?" When I looked it up in my Texas wildflower book I learned it is an invasive non-native tree that is spreading into many parts of central TX. Much like our Empress trees, they are lovely, but they have a bad habit of taking over! Each one of those pretty flowers will make a round, yellow seedpod.
