As we were driving down the road to the trail head at Lost Maples State Park I said, "Pull over, I just saw a Claret Cup Cactus in bloom!" Although I had photographed them earlier in the week at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, I wanted to get one "in the wild". This was another of my "target plants", one I've wanted to see for a long time. It seems like I've always been too early in the season to see cactus in bloom, so I was thrilled to find this one.
