When I first saw one of these spectacular birds, I thought it was a Scarlet Tanager, a birder quickly set me straight! Poor Kenny, he really had to use every ounce of patience he had when I would yell, "Stop now, I see another one of those red birds!", he would pull over as quickly as he could safely. It was fun to watch these birds dart out from a tree limb or a fence to catch an insect in mid-air.
I must have looked pretty funny stalking the different birds I saw on the trip. The only one I didn't get a photo of was the Caracara. One was in the median along the interstate and I had my macro lens on another time and couldn't get a shot of it!
