After I had photographed the beautiful butterfly and wildflowers on the road leading up to the Parador Hotel, I met this fellow walking on the road. He spoke no English and I spoke very little Spanish, but we struggled through a simple conversation. I noticed his necklace, when I looked at it more closely I realized it was the head of a giant Hercules beetle wrapped in gold wire! It had jewels where the eyes had been. I learned later that they are supposed to be good luck! The man was very friendly and we enjoyed talking to each other.
