The first time we saw one of these large birds at Currimundi, we were very excited! It didn't take long to learn how wide-spread they are in eastern Australia, we saw them EVERYWHERE! The males build a large nest out of leaves and twigs in which his harem of females will lay their eggs, he adds or removes the leaves to keep the nest at the proper temperature for the eggs to hatch. The tail feathers on these birds is vertical to keep them from kicking leaves, twigs, and soil onto them. The males are easy to tell from the females, they have a large yellow wattle hanging around their neck.
