The geology of the California coast is fascinating. I enjoyed seeing these striated sandstone boulders. It shows the cycles of flooding that occured thousands of years ago. The coarse bands are conglomerate rock and the lighter, smooth bands are sandstone. The Carmel River, the source of these rocks, is now about a mile north of this area.
