I found this plant blooming along the trail to the top of Max Patch, a beautiful bald near the Tennessee / North Carolina border. It blooms in the higher elevations of the Smokies too. Like other plants in the Parsley Family, it attracts bees and other insect pollinators. The Angelicas have an interesting habit of bhe buds being enclosed in the leaves before blooming. This species is smooth, A. venenosa or Hairy Angelica is downy, it also has white flowers.
Perennial
Where seen:Max Patch, NC, Great Smoky Mountains
