During a Solar Eclipse the new moon casts a shadow on the earth. When the sun's light is completely blocked there is a total eclipse. It becomes as dark as night for up to 2 minutes. It doesn't stay dark for long though, the shadow moves across the earth's surface at 1000 mph!
