Palo Alto, CA July 2, 2008 Thank goodness there was a fellow who was very familiar with the birds when I was at the Palo Alto Baylands! He helped me with the identification of many of the birds we saw. These beautiful birds often hover over the water in search of fish, then they dive in to catch them.
Palo Alto, CA July 3, 2008 I watched a flock of these beautiful pelicans soar over San Fransisco Bay from the boardwalk of the Palo Alto Baylands salt marsh. They are huge birds with a wingspan of up to 110 inches.
Point Reyes National Seashore, CA July 4, 2008 Oh how I wish I could have been closer to this bird when I photographed it! I was standing on a high cliff overlook and zoomed in on it with my 300 mm telephoto lens. It was fun watching the grebes diving for fish, we never knew exactly where they would pop back up!
