Concan, TX (Garner SP) March 30, 2009 This bird caught my attention because it was bobbing up and down on the rock in the middle of the Frio River in Garner State Park. I asked the park volunteer, who was also a birder for help on identifying this bird.
Boerne, TX March 28, 2009 This variety of titmouse is found in Mexico and central Texas.
Concan, TX (Garner SP) March 30, 2009 When I first saw one of these spectacular birds, I thought it was a Scarlet Tanager, a birder quickly set me straight! Poor Kenny, he really had to use every ounce of patience he had when I would yell, "Stop now, I see another one of those red birds!", he would pull over as quickly as he could safely. It was fun to watch these birds dart out from a tree limb or a fence to catch an insect in mid-air. I must have looked pretty funny stalking the different birds I saw on the trip. The only one I didn't get a photo of was the Caracara. One was in the median along the interstate and I had my macro lens on another time and couldn't get a shot of it!
