Palo Alto, CA July 3, 2008 I watched a flock of these beautiful pelicans soar over San Fransisco Bay from the boardwalk of the Palo Alto Baylands salt marsh. They are huge birds with a wingspan of up to 110 inches.
Point Reyes National Seashore, CA July 4, 2008 Oh how I wish I could have been closer to this bird when I photographed it! I was standing on a high cliff overlook and zoomed in on it with my 300 mm telephoto lens. It was fun watching the grebes diving for fish, we never knew exactly where they would pop back up!
My uncle is a professional photographer in California. While visiting him, he showed me the best way to photograph hummingbirds. It looks funny, but it helped me to better get on their level! Photo by: Marvin White
