Oak Ridge, TN March 27, 2008 This pair of Chipping Sparrows were nibbling seeds at the feeder outside my living room window. The male has a distinctive rusty red crown in the spring when he sports his breeding plumage. In nature, it is the males who wear the pretty colors and put on the "make up" to attract their mates! :)
