Violet Family
Acanthus Family Height: 8" to 24" May 18, 2005 I found this pretty blue flower blooming in a powerline cut at Haw Ridge. The stem is hairy. Note the nectar guides on the side of the flower. Perennial Where seen:Oak Ridge
Pea Family April 17, 2005 Wisteria vines are a bit like Kudzu, the flowers are very lovely but the vines will choke and shade out any plant unfortunate enough to have them growing on them. It is a serious pest in some southeastern states. This one is growing on another invasive non-native, Bush Honeysuckle! These pretty purple flowers bloom here in April, they can sometimes be seen growing in trees along highways. Wisteria vines in unusual places are often indicative of an old homesite. Children should be warned not to eat the seeds or pods, they are poisonous and will cause digestive upset. Perennial - Vine Where seen:Hwy. 321 near Townsend, TN, Pellissippi Parkway in Knoxville
