Honeysuckle Family Bush Honeysuckle is very common along roadsides, under fences and powerlines. Birds like to eat the juicy red berries in the fall and they spread the seeds. The plants bloom in late April through early May. I photographed these in Knoxville.
When it blooms, this shrub is an allergy sufferers' nightmare! I dread the weeks when this shrub is in bloom! Birds spread the seeds from the purple berries through their droppings. Where seen: Oak Ridge Greenways, Warriors' Path SP, Widespread
The flowers have a very strong, musky-sweet, almost overwhelming aroma. Birds and raccoons love the juicy pink fruits of this shrub which they help spread. Where seen: Widespread!
