Violet Family March 18, 2005 This little violet blooms in yards. It is mostly white, but can have blue or purple on the petals. I photographed these at the UT Arboretum. Where seen: Oak Ridge, Norris Dam SP, Warriors' Path SP, widespread
Honeysuckle close-up The white flower is a freshly-bloomed, unpollinated flower, the yellow one bloomed the day before and has already been pollinated. Notice the difference in the pistils and stamens of the two flowers.
Honeysuckle Family The flowers of this highly invasive, imported vine have a strong, sweet aroma. Notice how the flower buds bloom white the first day. After being pollinated, the flowers turn yellow and the stamens wilt. Some plants, like this one, have pink buds. Birds spread the seeds when they eat the shiny black berries in the fall. Honeysuckle can be found all over east Tennessee. Perennial Where seen: Oak Ridge Greenways, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Warriors' Path SP, Everywhere!7.4.tpi.1, 7.4.spi.4
