Pink Lady's Slipper Orchid - Front view
Orchid Family April 29, 2005 I always enjoy finding this lovely pink and white orchid growing along the trailsides. Many orchids must have a soil fungus that grows into their roots to help them grow. They will not survive if moved from where they grow naturally. Never dig or buy wild orchids! I photographed these on the Little River Trail in the Smokies in April. {Formerly known as Orchis spectabilis} Perennial Where seen:Oak Ridge Greenways Trails, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Frozen Head SP
close-up It is interesting to get down low to look closely at these pretty orchids. Considering how lousy the weather was, I was lucky to get this picture!
