Violet Family Sweet White Violets are "stemless" violets; the stems come directly from the roots instead of from the plant stem. I liked the way these plants grew from a crack in this boulder at Frozen Head State Park in April. Note the reddish stems of the flowers and leaves. Perennial Where seen:Frozen Head SP, Great Smoky Mountains NP
Pea Family Length: To 40" April 10, 2005 Wood Vetch is a trailing plant in the Pea family. Like most vetches the leaves have a long tendril at the end. I found this one blooming along the Piney River trail in April. Perennial Where seen: Frozen Head SP, Piney River SNA, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Warriors' Path SP, Haw Ridge
Mustard Family Height: To 24" I found this plant blooming in Oak Ridge in April. Like other cresses, it is in the Mustard Family. Annual Where seen:Oak Ridge Greenways {Formerly known as: Cardamine bulbosa}
