Ginseng Family Height: 4" - 8" April 15, 2005 This plant blooms early in the season. It is very tiny (4-8 inches) and very easy to overlook hidden in the leaves. Finding some wildflowers is a lot like hunting Easter eggs, you often have to look low and under leaves. I found these blooming on the Chimney Tops Nature Trail in Great Smoky Mountains Park. Perennial Where seen:Frozen Head SP, Great Smoky Mountains NP
Parsley Family Height: To 36" April 15, 2005 It is easy to confuse Sweet Cicely with Southern Chervil or Honewort. Note the hairy stem as an aid in identification. The plant is in the Carrot or Parsley family. This blooms in April. I photographed this plant on the Chestnut Top trail in the Great Smoky Mountains Park. Perennial Where seen:Frozen Head SP, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Warriors' Path SP, Haw Ridge, Ijams Nature Center
Parsley Family Height: 12" - 40" April 15, 2005 Honewort has larger leaves than the previous two flowers, the flowers are very small. This one was growing along the Chestnut Top trail in the Smokies. Perennial Where seen:Great Smoky Mountains NP, Warriors' Path SP
