Saxifrage Family Height: 4" -16" April 15, 2005 You'll find Miterwort blooming in mid-April along stream banks and in low woodlands in many areas of East Tennessee. I found this blooming in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The plants can grow to 16 inches tall and often grow in large patches. You must get down on the level of the flowers to truly appreciate their delicate beauty! (See following picture) Diphylla means two leaves, there are two opposite leaves on the stem of the plant. Perennial Where seen: Frozen Head SP, Norris Dam SP, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Piney River Pocket Wilderness, Warrior's Path SP, Ijams Nature Center
Norris Dam State Park April 5, 2008 The fringed petals of these flowers make them look like little 5-pointed snowflakes. I knew I would put my new macro lens to good use this spring!:) This is one of those wildflowers that you have to look at up very closely to really appreciate.
