ssp. pallens / Violet Family Rare May 29, 2006 Height: to 3" These tiny white violets grow in the mountains of east Tennessee. Yet another stemless white violet! This one was found along the Appalachian Trail. It has rounded leaves. Perennial Where seen:Great Smoky Mountains NP
Violet Family These "blue and gray" violets are related to the Common Blue Violet. I found these blooming in Oak Ridge in April. Perennial Where seen:Oak Ridge Greenways, University of Tennessee Arboretum {Formerly known as: Viola papilionacea}
Violet Family Sweet White Violets are "stemless" violets; the stems come directly from the roots instead of from the plant stem. I liked the way these plants grew from a crack in this boulder at Frozen Head State Park in April. Note the reddish stems of the flowers and leaves. Perennial Where seen:Frozen Head SP, Great Smoky Mountains NP
