Parsley Family Height: To 36" April 15, 2005 It is easy to confuse Sweet Cicely with Southern Chervil or Honewort. Note the hairy stem as an aid in identification. The plant is in the Carrot or Parsley family. This blooms in April. I photographed this plant on the Chestnut Top trail in the Great Smoky Mountains Park. Parsley Family Height: 12" - 40" April 15, 2005 Honewort has larger leaves than the previous two flowers, the flowers are very small. This one was growing along the Chestnut Top trail in the Smokies. Perennial Where seen:Great Smoky Mountains NP, Warriors' Path SP
Barberry Family Height: 12" - 36" The leaves of the Umbrella Leaf could almost be used as an emergency umbrella during a hike in the Applachians! The leaves are huge, 1- 2 feet across. Like the Mayapple, flowers occur only on plants with two leaves. This plant was growing along the Little River Trail in the Smokies in April. Where seen: Great Smoky Mountains NP
