Pea Family Height: 12" - 32" June 23, 2005 There are 6 different kinds of plants in Tennessee called "Snakeroot" and none of them are even in the same family! This one has three long clover-like leaflets. The plant is a silvery-gray. It grows in open woods and along roadsides. Perennial Where seen: Big South Fork NRRA Formerly known as: Psoralea psoralioides
Pea Family The lovely blue flowers on this vine are very large, they caught my eye as we drove down the road to Clark Center Park in Oak Ridge. I'm lucky to have a very patient husband who will stop when I see a new flower so I can get a photo! :) I read on another wildflower site that this flower is called "Atlantic Pigeonwings" in some areas of the country, common names can be very interesting! Perennial Where seen: Oak Ridge, Great Smoky Mountains NP
Pea Family This is the Alfalfa that is eaten by cattle and horses. The nipped-off end on the right side of the picture indicates that it is also enjoyed by deer. It can sometimes be found growing as an escape in the wild. I found this plant growing at the Three Bends Scenic Wildlife Area in early June. People often eat the seed sprouts of Alfalfa on sandwiches and salads. Perennial Where seen: Oak Ridge Greenways, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Warriors' Path SP
