Bellflower Family Corbin, KY August 1, 2008 I nearly overlooked this tiny flower on a thread-like stem. It was hiding in the grass under an overgrown powerline cut. It is easy to identify because of its 2 green spots on the lower lip of the flower. Unlike its larger relatives, this little thin-stemmed Lobelia does not grow very large.
Loosestrife Family Aquatic (INN) Rank 1 This plant has pretty purple flowers, but it can be a serious pest in a wetland. It is an aquatic non-native that can crowd out beneficial native plants. I found this plant (and many others like it) growing along South Illinois Ave. in Oak Ridge in mid-July.
