Snapdragon Family Height: 2' to 10' August 12, 2005 I was excited to see this plant blooming along the trail to the top of Max Patch, a beautiful bald near the TN / NC border. The flowers are maroon and ecru colored, they are small and not easy to spot. I don't know how it got the unusual common name. Perennial Where seen: Max Patch, NC

Plants with the pollen bearing male (staminate) flowers and female (pistilate) flowers on different areas of the flower are called "monoecious." Quassia Family June 23, 2005 I put this tree in the gallery because it is, unfortunately, such a common roadside tree. It is easy to spot by its' brown fruits that become visible in June.
