Water Shield Family Rare Aquatic Bays Mountain Park June 23, 2007 I never expected to see this plant growing in east Tennessee, especially up on top of a mountain! It grew quite thick along the edges of Bays Mountain Lake. The stems and leaves are quite slimy, I remember hating having to swim through this plant at Girl Scout Camp in middle Tennessee in the late 1960's. It would rap around our legs and it felt creepy! :(
