Smartweed Family These flowers were blooming at Cove Lake State Park. Annual? Where seen: Cove Lake State Park, Great Smoky Mountains NP
Smartweed Family Aquatic I didn't find this plant, it found me! While I was photographing another plant I felt something cutting into my leg, when I looked at this "innocent-looking" plant I noticed some sharp, curved prickles under the leaves. Not only could this plant "tear a thumb", but its' leaves could tear any part of your body that got caught on them! Click on the picture and it will enlarge so you can see them better. I found this one blooming in late August near the pond at Frozen Head SP. Annual Where seen: Frozen Head State Park
Caper Family This unusual flower is a garden escape. The leaves and stems are very sticky and have an unpleasant smell. We had this plant in my yard when I was a child. Annual Where seen: Oak Ridge Greenways
