Primrose Family July 10, 2006 I found this small Loosestrife blooming in a field at the far end of Cades Cove in the Smokies. Researchers and park rangers are working to restore native plants to the cove by burning out invasive, non-native grasses (such as Fescue). Many of the pretty field wildflowers are making a comeback. I look forward to the day when the Cove is a palette of color from native wildflowers! :)
Parsley Family Kingsport, TN June 23, 2007 This pretty yellow flower is considered a noxious weed in Tennessee. It can cover large areas of land when well-established. I found this plant growing in front of the hotel where we stayed in Kingsport.
Flax Family Rare! Thanks to field botanist Dan Boone (and Google) for identifying this rare plant for me! I found this flower in a Cedar Barren area in Oak Ridge in late August 2003. It has tiny leaves along the stem. I'll try to find it again this year and get a better picture. (On return trips to the cedar barren in Aug. 2004 '05, and '06, I did not find the plant) Perennial Where seen: Jefferson Middle School Cedar Barrens
