St. Johnswort Family Rare - Endangered in TN This St. Johnswort grows in the high elevations of Tennessee. I found this one on Clingman's Dome in July 2003. It has fairly large flowers. {Also known as Blue Ridge St. Johnswort, H. mitchellianum} Perennial Where seen: Great Smoky Mountains NP
Snapdragon Family (INN) Rank 2 This plant has very fuzzy leaves, which is a form of sunscreen. It has been called "Quaker Rouge" due to the fact that the young Quaker girls could not wear make-up; they would make their cheeks rosy by rubbing them (and irritating their skin) with the fuzzy mullein leaves! The seeds can stay dormant in the soil for many decades. Biennial Where seen: Oak Ridge, Warrior's Path SP, widespread
