Orchid Family Height 4 to 16" July 31, 2005 This plant was blooming along the trail to the Little Greenbriar School in the Smokies. I have been trying to find orchids this year, so it was an exciting find! This plant has just one long leaf low on its' slender stem. I look for patterns of leaves when I'm hiking, I noticed the leaf on the stem before I saw the flowers. This is not a great picture because it was taken in low light at a bad angle. Where seen: Great Smoky Mountains NP
The little flowers are quite pretty upon close inspection. The plants often grow in a cluster or in a row.
