I found these blooming in the yard of our bed and breakfast in Healy, just outside of Denali. The host family had planted some interesting wildflowers along the roadside.
Kenny donned his Mosquito net during one of our hikes in Denali. For such a cold place, Alaska has some really BIG mosquitoes. We were still a bit too early for the Black Fly season, so we didn't get the "pleasure" of experiencing them too!
is much more camouflaged to help protect her chicks and herself from predators. We heard her before we saw her when she softly clucked to her chicks. Like the male, she will molt her brown feathers and become white in the winter.
