This hillside along Hwy. 87 was covered with Saguaro cactus and Brittlebush.
March 30, 2005 - Glendale, AZ This stately old cactus was growing in Thunderbird Park. I had not expected to see so many Saguaros in the Phoenix area. They seem to have very specific growth requirements, I noticed they suddenly quit growing above a certain elevation and they only grew on certain sides of hills. It takes up to 50 years before a saguaro can grow its first arms, so it is obvious this cactus is quite old.
