June 30, 2012 There are several different species of yellow-flowered buckwheat. This species grows low to the ground and has silvery leaves.
Kenny and I had been to Yosemite in October 2003. This trip was much better because there was water in all of the waterfalls in the valley and there were LOTS of different wildflowers in bloom. Ohlmsted Point is one of the famous overlooks at Yosemite National Park. It is interesting to see the lone granite boulders called "erratics", huge stones left behind by receding glaciers. Half Dome can be seen far in the distance in the center of the photo.
Granite is very hard rock, but it can crack and "peel" like layers of an onion. Rockfalls are not uncommon in Yosemite.
