Joshua Tree National Park March 20, 2007 This plant got a little bit of help at the park visitor center, it got some irrigation. I actually missed seeing it the first day, it was hiding behind a larger plant.
Joshua Tree NP March 19, 2007 These flowers are pollinated by one insect, the Mojave Yucca moth (Tegeticula yuccasella). The moth and the plant are dependent on one another for survival, a relationship called mutualism.
Joshua Tree National Park March 20, 2007 The Yucca and Joshua Trees had a spectacular bloom year, despite the drought! Both plants have stiff, dagger-sharp leaves which discourage browsing by desert animals. The distant clouds looked as though they held the promise of rain, however we counted about 10 drops when they finally arrived!
