This canvas tent/cabin at the Taft Oil Museum is a reconstruction of the homes where the workers of the early 1930's lived. The following photo shows the inside of the cabin.
is one of the first landmarks seen when you drive into town. These large derricks once dotted the landscape around the area. The Oil Museum had displays of the history of the town beginning with the Native Americans. The early people used the oil and tar that seeped from the ground as glue and for waterproofing materials.
