Las Cruces, NM Oct. 3, 2008 This flower was growing in my cousin's yard, so I didn't have to work very hard to get this photo! :) As their common name indicates, many of these flowers bloom late in the afternoon.
Alamogordo, NM Sept. 30, 2008 I just had to get out and photograph the wildflowers and scenery as we drove up the highway from the airport in El Paso, TX to Alamogordo, NM. I had not yet unpacked my hiking boots and I quickly realized that was a BIG mistake if you are traipsing around in the desert! I suddenly felt a stabbing pain on my ankles; I looked down and saw my socks, shoelaces and jeans were covered in these awful, needle-sharp seeds! What an unfriendly welcome to New Mexico! It certainly made me have a better respect for the plants in the desert. And to think I had been concerned about snakes and scorpions, I hadn't thought much about the wicked seeds I might encounter! Ha!
Pea Family Las Cruces, NM Oct. 4, 2008 This was another wildflower that I found growing behind the hotel. One of the workers told me there are 3 Roadrunners, and a family of quail that live back there too.
