on the bank of the canal along Hwy. 29, just south of Imokalee. It was a warm, sunny day so it and several others were warming themselves. We were glad there was a wide canal between us and them!
Madder Family Big Cypress Preserve, FL Dec. 16, 2009 This was a very common roadside plant in south Florida. It could almost be mistaken for a member of the Mint Family because of its square stem. However, the shape of the flowers and the whorled leaves indicate it is in the Madder Family.
It seemed strange to see Panther Crossing signs along Hwy. 29! The Fakahatchee Strand, a Florida Panther Sanctuary, borders the highway.
