Only in Texas would you find signs on cross streets in German and Spanish! Hauptstrasse means "Main Street" in German; Blanco means "white" in Spanish. Many of the little towns in central Texas were established by German immigrants. The pretty building in the background is the Boerne (pronounced "Burney") library. We enjoyed seeing the historic buildings in the old sections of the little towns. We went to Boerne to visit the Cibolo Nature Center. The pretty, clear Cibolo Creek runs through the property, it is lined with huge cypress trees. The center is a good bird-watching area.
Agave Family Kyle, TX March 28, 2009 Actually, some of the plants could kill you too! These yuccas have wickedly sharp points on the ends of the stiff leaves. They probably could have been used as daggers! Yuccas are pollinated by just one insect, the yucca moth.
It was a little un-nerving to read this sign at Friedrich Wilderness Park, it is hard to get used to hiking in areas where the local fauna can kill you! :(
