Boerne, TX March 28, 2009 This is not the greatest photo, but it does show the detail of the disk flowers in the center. Each of the little yellow dots are a single flower, each capable of making a seed. This plant is commonly planted along roadsides.
Boerne, TX March 29, 2009 These large black birds were both obnoxious and comical, we couldn't help but be amused by them. They were the first bird we heard when we stepped outside the airport when we arrived in San Antonio. They make a variety of calls, often sounding somewhat like a car alarm! This guy was in the "mood for love" and was loudly announcing his desires to the females nearby by calling loudly and puffing up his feathers! If you live in an area where grackles live, it is best not to park your car under the trees where they roost at night, it won't look the same the next morning!
Boerne, TX March 28, 2009 At last, I was able to see these pretty ducks up close! The last time I had seen them they were bobbing off in the distance on one of our local lakes. I liked the purple sheen reflecting off the head feathers.
