Pokeweed Family Batesville, TX April 1, 2009 This was a pretty pitiful specimen of this plant, it must have been mowed at some point, because it should have been much taller and have had a lot more flowers. I found it in a lot next to a truck stop along the highway.
Olive Family Batesville, TX April 1, 2009 Like the Texas Mountain Laurel, which is purple-flowered and in the Pea Family, is nothing like the Mountain Laurel in Tennessee, this yellow-flowered Redbud also is nothing like our pink-flowered redbud tree. That is the problem with common names, they can be really confusing! This plant gets its name from the small bud that is red before blooming as a yellow flower! I found this plant barely eking out an existence in an empty lot next to a truck stop!
Pea Family Bigfoot, TX April 1, 2009 This is a fun plant to find! If you touch the leaves and watch them as they close immediately. They really are "sensitive".
