Aster Family Waelder, TX March 26, 2009 These plants were very common along the roadsides near San Antonio and Austin. They are composite flowers, but they do not have ray flowers ("petals") like daisies. Each little part is an individual flower.

Iris Family String Prairie, TX March 26, 2009 This was one of those "two-fer" plants, I stopped to take a picture of the Prairie Indigo and I spotted this lone flower on the ground! Unfortunately, this plant is a morning-bloomer, the petals had begun to close when I saw it, so this is the best I could get.
