Cactus Family Leakey, TX (Lost Maples SP) March 30, 2009 As we were driving down the road to the trail head at Lost Maples State Park I said, "Pull over, I just saw a Claret Cup Cactus in bloom!" Although I had photographed them earlier in the week at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, I wanted to get one "in the wild". This was another of my "target plants", one I've wanted to see for a long time. It seems like I've always been too early in the season to see cactus in bloom, so I was thrilled to find this one.
Leakey, TX (Lost Maples SP) March 30, 2009 I couldn't believe we were in TX for 10 days and this was the only scrub jay I saw! It was visiting a feeder at Lost Maples State Park.
The East Trail often followed the bank and sometimes crossed the creek at Lost Maples.
