at the correct angle, they look purple due to the refraction of the light. I had to wait until late in the afternoon when the sun was at a low angle to get this shot.
in Concan, TX. It has RV hookups, cabins, cottages overlooking the Frio River and a 4-bedroom limestone inn (to be completed in late May 2009), built on the site of a former church camp. The crystal-clear Frio River is a short walk down the hill. The owner, Nancy, has added several birdfeeders near the office, I enjoyed photographing the hummingbirds, cardinals, titmice, and woodpeckers as they ate at the feeders and chased one another! The resort is selling my notecards of local wildflowers, birds and landscapes.
Concan, TX March 31, 2009 This photo was taken early in the morning at River Rim Resort. The woodpecker was waiting to fly to the hummingbird feeder to load up on nectar. It was really funny to see such a large bird drinking out of the feeder! I saw a pair of these birds at Garner State Park, but they were too high to get a good shot.
