Weevil I spotted this tiny (~1/8") black weevil while photographing wildflowers at Norris Dam State Park in April 2008. It was on a Spring Beauty flower. Weevils have unusual mouthparts (mandibles) in that they are located at the end of their proboscis, the long, protruding "nose-looking thing". These odd beetles are plant and seed eaters. One of the most infamous of this group is the Cotton Boll Weevil.
This Pleasing Fungus beetle is eating a shelf fungus on a dead tree.
Frozen Head State Park, TN April 15, 2010 This little guy was not very cooperative, he wouldn't stand still long enough to get a good clear shot. These beetles are often found on animal feces!
