. Many kinds of beetles lay their eggs underground, the grubs eat the roots of plants as they develop. Some of the soil grubs include Junebugs and Japanese beetles. Grubs will go through 5 molts before becoming a pupa. Many beetles spend the winter in the dormant pupa stage, becoming an adult the following spring or summer. Some kinds of grubs can cause damage to grass in lawns. A form of natural, and environmentally friendly, pesticide is a bacterium called "BT" or Bacillus thuringensis. This bacterium kills beetle grubs in the soil.
